Working together these muscles flex the hand at the wrist. The flexor carpus radialis, flexor carpus ulnaris, and palmaris longus muscles all have their origins on the humerus of the upper arm and insert into the carpals and metacarpals on the palmar side of the hand. These long, thin muscles extend through the wrist via tendons to insert into the bones of the wrist, palm, and fingers.
